We have made a stake here in Pittsburgh, actually Mars, PA! We moved here August 22, 2011! The property is in a new neighborhood called The Villages of Camp Trees. The lot is 1/2 acre, backing up to a nature preserve. We are building with Chad Weaver of Weaver Master Builders and are so excited!!!
This move has been a very different experience, as they always are. We really wanted to be closer to the city to lessen the commute for TJ, but the harder we looked the fewer options we found. One day the kids are I were out driving around and found the neighborhood. It was at the top of our price range but thought we would just see what they might have to offer.
To make a long story short, after much praying and fasting our whole family felt prompted to explore this opportunity. There were challenges to overcome, first: the apartment where we were living was in a different school district and the only apartments available for rent in the school district were full. Second: the time to build was roughly 6 months, apartments want a year lease. The rule at the school is, you can have a 3 month exclusion if you live outside the district, if you are not a resident by the end of the 3 months, you have to pay tuition of $50/day per child - a whooping $150 a day! Man! private school isn't that much. Third: the ward we would be moving into has seminary at the other high school, which is 20 miles away. So, needless to say we weren't sure that this was the best option. However, Heavenly Father obviously has a great plan for our family because everything seemed to fall into place. The builder had a speck home that he just finished and has allowed us to rent for a very reasonable price, which puts our kids in the right school district - saving us from having to switch schools again, or pay outrageous amounts for school - what a blessing. We are not tied to a lease either - we can move out as soon as the house is finished! We still don't know about seminary, but I'm sure it will work out.
I will keep posting updates about the progress of the house and take as many pictures as possible - HAPPY BUILDING!!!
